MEET THE MANAGEMENT TEAM
Striving to be an example of how a local business should be run, one where profit isn't the over riding incentive.
In 2014, Kerry Dooley and Damian Blow decided that they could work together to build a different style of accountancy practice. It would be based on an ‘old-style’ mix of flexibility, personal relationships and simply understanding the requirements of the client combined with up to date professional knowledge and use of modern technology.
KERRY DOOLEY - CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT
CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT
After gaining my maths degree at City University in London I continued with my love of numbers completing my training contract and becoming a chartered accountant in 2005. I enjoyed working as an auditor for Ernst and Young in their Luton offices but soon after qualifying I knew that I would be better suited in a role where I could be ‘doing’ rather than ‘checking’ the numbers.
I moved into industry finance functions, working for large corporate names such as Costa Coffee, Domino’s Pizza and the global brewer AB InBev. After 10 years in various finance roles I started to look for something more fulfilling that would give me a long dreamed of ‘work-life balance’. I found a part time role managing the finances for a small community interest company that works with adults with learning disabilities and have never looked back.
Working part time has allowed me the opportunity to set up Chestnut Green alongside Damian. I’m proud that we can run our own accountancy firm the way we want to, ensuring that providing our clients a personal, friendly yet professional service is at the core of what we do.
DAMIAN BLOW
ACCOUNTS MANAGER
Having been schooled locally, once I finished university, I went to work for my Father’s accountancy firm and started at the bottom. Photocopying, answering the phone and coffee-making were the standard but soon book-keeping, payroll processing and subcontractor records filled the days. I worked my way up to partner level and the company soon made the decision to incorporate. Eventually it was time for Dad to retire and so the decision was made that the company would be sold.
I carried on working as practice manager for the purchaser until the enticing prospect of being able to drive forward a new company was sufficient to persuade me to move on.
Since that time, it has been a constantly rewarding journey – long may it continue.
